In a key leadership change, Meezan Bank Limited (MEBL), Pakistan’s largest Islamic bank, announced the appointment of Dr Syed Amir Ali as its president and Chief Executive Officer (CEO), effective 30 December 2025, replacing founding president and CEO Irfan Siddiqui.
The listed Islamic bank disclosed the development in a notice to the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) on Tuesday.
“We have to inform you that Dr Syed Amir Ali has been appointed as the president and CEO of Meezan Bank Limited with effect from 30 December 2025, in place of Irfan Siddiqui, founding president and CEO,” read the notice.
Siddiqui will continue to serve as a member of MEBL’s board of directors.

The board of directors placed on record their appreciation of the leadership, tireless efforts, and invaluable contributions of Irfan Siddiqui in establishing and developing Meezan Bank into one of Pakistan’s greatest corporate success stories and a trendsetter in the global Islamic banking industry.
“His unwavering commitment and pioneering role have been instrumental in laying the foundation of Islamic banking in the country and driving the bank’s remarkable journey of growth and success,” it added.
According to information available on Meezan Bank’s website, Dr Syed Amir Ali is an experienced Islamic banking professional holding qualifications in finance, accounting, business, and law.
With over 20 years of experience in finance, treasury, investment, and corporate banking, he has worked with domestic and international organisations, including A.F Ferguson & Co, Shell, BankIslami Pakistan Limited, and Meezan Bank.
Ali is a qualified Chartered Financial Analyst from The CFA Institute, USA, a Chartered Certified Accountant from The Association of Chartered Certified Accountants, UK, and a Chartered Accountant from the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Pakistan. He is also an MBA from Hamdard University, Karachi and LL.B. from the University of Karachi.
Ali first joined Meezan Bank in 2006, spearheading the corporate and investment group, before transitioning to BankIslami in 2018. He rejoined Meezan Bank in 2023.
