LAHORE: The Punjab Assembly has unanimously passed a resolution paying tribute to Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) and Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Asim Munir. This resolution was presented in the house by government member Ahmad Shahryar, stating that the house pays tribute to Chief of Defence Forces General Hafiz Syed Asim Munir for demonstrating courageous leadership in strengthening the principles of self-accountability, rule of law and transparency in national institutions.

The resolution presented by PML (N) MPA Ahmed Sheheryar states that that under General Asim Munir’s guidance, the armed forces have proven that institutional credibility, supremacy of the constitution and national interest take precedence over everything else.

The resolution describes the decision by the military court of giving 14 years rigorous imprisonment to former ISI chief Faiz Hameed on charges of abuse of authority and other allegations as a commendable manifestation of self-accountability, institutional integrity and supremacy of justice.

The house has endorsed the principle that no person in the country, regardless of their position or status, is above the law, and this very principle forms the foundation of state stability and public trust in institutions.

The Punjab Assembly has also passed a resolution regarding the Army Public School tragedy and the fall of Dhaka by majority vote. This resolution was presented in the house by government member Rana Muhammad Arshad, stating that December 16, 2014 is a dark day in Pakistan’s history that reminds us of the Army Public School tragedy and the fall of Dhaka. The resolution states that this day teaches us that national unity and solidarity are the path that can make us successful in every trial. The sacrifices of the innocent martyrs of Army Public School continue to illuminate our resolve against terrorism in our hearts even today.

The resolution states that the sacrifices made by the Pakistan Armed Forces and the nation for the elimination of terrorism are unprecedented, and our resolve is to purify our beloved homeland from terrorism and extremism forever. The fall of Dhaka teaches us the lesson that we must move forward as a nation by setting aside personal, political, group differences and interests. The resolution pays tribute to global leader former Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif and current Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif for their vision. The then Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif and the Pakistan Armed Forces made a courageous decision, and today’s Prime Minister Mian Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif and the Pakistan Armed Forces have secured the beloved homeland by making a courageous decision. This house pays tribute to the standard-bearer of courage and bravery, Field Marshal General Hafiz Asim Munir and the Pakistan Armed Forces, who secured the second APS Cadet College, its children and staff and eliminated the terrorists. This house expects the youth to create unity in their ranks, express solidarity with the Pakistan Armed Forces and face every crisis confronting their country with courage and wisdom. This homeland belongs to all of us, its progress and stability are inevitable and the responsibility of all of us, and may Allah Almighty always keep Pakistan safe.

A resolution regarding the Indian state of Bihar’s Chief Minister forcibly removing a female doctor’s veil has been unanimously passed by the Punjab Assembly. This resolution was presented in the house by opposition member Nadeem Qureshi, strongly condemning the shameful incident that occurred in the state of Bihar. During an official ceremony in India, Bihar’s Chief Minister Nitish Kumar had the audacity to forcibly pull and remove the hijab of a Muslim female doctor, Nusrat Parveen, crossing all boundaries of ethics and humanity. This act is an open insult to human dignity, religious freedom and the fundamental rights of women. Such behaviour by rulers in any civilized state is absolutely unacceptable and reflects a prejudiced and authoritarian mindset against minorities. The resolution states that non-Muslim minorities in Pakistan enjoy complete religious freedom and constitutional protection. Seats are allocated for them in the Senate, National and Provincial Assemblies, and the inclusion of non-Muslim minorities in state institutions, government employment and the national mainstream is ensured. Pakistan is a shining example of respect for non-Muslim minorities and religious freedom. The discriminatory, insulting and uncivilized attitude towards minorities, especially Muslims in India, is not only a negation of democratic values but also a clear violation of international human rights.
