Dec CPI inflation stands at 5.6pc YoY

ISLAMABAD: Consumer Price Index-based inflation stood at 5.6 per cent on a year-on-year (YoY) basis in December 2025, compared to 6.1 per cent in the previous month and 4.1 per cent in December 2024, according to the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS).

Data released by the PBS on Monday further showed that on a month-on-month (MoM) basis, CPI declined by 0.4 per cent in December 2025, compared to an increase of 0.4 per cent in the preceding month and a rise of 0.1 per cent in December 2024.

CPI inflation Urban, increased by 5.8 percent on year-on-year basis in December 2025 as compared to an increase of 6.1 percent in the previous month and 4.4 percent in December 2024. On MOM basis, it decreased by 0.4 percent in December 2025 as compared to an increase of 0.5 percent in the previous month and a decrease of 0.1 percent in December 2024.

CPI inflation-Rural, increased by 5.4 percent on a YoY basis in December 2025 as compared to an increase of 6.3 percent in the previous month and 3.6 percent in December 2024. On MoM basis, it decreased by 0.6 percent in December 2025 as compared to an increase of 0.2 percent in the previous month and an increase of 0.3 percent in December 2024.

The SPI inflation on YoY basis increased by 2.5 percent in December 2025 as compared to an increase of 4.2 percent in the previous month and in December 2024 each. On a MoM basis, it decreased by 0.8 percent in December 2025 as compared to an increase of 0.4 percent in a month earlier and an increase of 0.8 percent in December 2024.

WPI inflation on YoY basis increased by 0.6 percent in December 2025 as compared to an increase of 1.1 percent in the previous month and an increase of 1.9 percent in December 2024. On a MoM basis, it decreased by 0.9 percent in December 2025 as compared to a decrease of 0.2 percent in the previous month and a decrease of 0.4 percent in December 2024.

Measured by non-food non-energy Urban increased by 6.9 percent on a YoY basis in December 2025 as compared to 6.6 percent of the previous month and 8.1 percent in December 2024. On MoM basis, it increased by 0.5 percent in December 2025 as compared to 0.3 percent in previous month and an increase of 0.2 percent in the corresponding month of last year i.e. December 2024.

Measured by non-food non-energy Rural increased by 8.1 percent on (YoY) basis in December 2025 compared to 8.2 percent in previous month and an increase of 10.7 percent in December 2024. On MoM basis, it increased by 0.6 percent in December 2025 as compared to 0.5 percent in the previous month and an increase of 0.6 percent in corresponding month of last year i.e. December 2024.

Measured by 20percent weighted trimmed mean Urban increased by 5.5percent on (YoY) basis in December 2025 as compared to 5.3percent in the previous month and 6.2percent in December 2024. On (MoM) basis, it remained stable at 0.3percent in December 2025 as compared to the previous month and an increase of 0.1percent in corresponding month of last year, ie, December 2024.

Measured by 20 percent weighted trimmed mean Rural increased by 6percent on (YoY) basis in December 2025 as compared to an increase of 6.4percent of the previous month and 6.5% in December 2024. On (MoM) basis, it remained stable at 0.4percent in December 2025 as compared to the previous month and an increase of 0.6percent in corresponding month of last year, ie, December 2024.

The National Consumer Price Index for December 2025 is decreased by 0.45percent over November 2025 and increased by 5.61percent over corresponding month of the last year i.e. December 2024.

The Urban Consumer Price Index for December 2025 is decreased by 0.36percent over November 2025 and increased by 5.77percent over corresponding month of the last year, ie, December 2024.

Top few food commodities which varied from previous month, ie, November, 2025 are given below: Fresh Fruits by 6.78percent, wheat 3.48percent, dry fruits 3.29percent, eggs 3.27percent, cooking oil 2.84percent, milk powder 2.03percent, wheat flour 2.01percent, vegetable ghee 1.92percent, fish 1.89percent, wheat products 1.53percent, beans 0.63percent and Condiments & Spices 0.57percent.

Prices of the following food items decreased: Tomatoes 45.20percent, onions 32.99percent, fresh vegetables 21.30percent, potatoes 17.88percent, sugar 6.96percent, gram whole 3.07percent, gur 2.93percent, chicken 2.79percent, besan 2.65percent, pulse gram 2.40percent, pulse mash 1.17percent, mustard oil 0.81percent, pulse masoor0.74percent, rice 0.21percent and pulse moong 0.12percent.

During the period under review price of the following Non-Food witnessed an increase: Liquified Hydrocarbons 16.37percent, personal effects 3.77percent, solid fuel 2.76percent, woolen readymade garments 2.44percent, marriage hall charges 1.96percent, mechanical services 1.92percent, household servant 0.97percent, transport services 0.96percent, education 0.84percent and electricity charges 0.53percent.

While the prices of the following non-food items witnessed a reduction: Motor fuel 0.66percent and Washing soap/detergents/match box 0.54percent.

On YoY prices of the following food commodities witnessed an increase 2024: Sugar 26.69percent, wheat 25.27percent, butter 24.12percent, fresh fruits 19.62percent, wheat flour 17.76percent, condiments and spices 12.52percent, gur12.36percent, chicken 12.05percent and meat 9.96percent.

On MoM basis prices of the following food items witnessed a decline: Tomatoes 52.56percent, potatoes 42.79percent, onions 28.85percent, pulse gram 26.41percent, besan 26.03percent, fresh vegetables 20.11percent, gram whole 19.51percent, tea 17.75percent, pulse mash 15.19 percent, beans 8.67percent, pulse masoor 5.11percent, mustard oil 2.44percent and pulse moong 1.65percent.

On a MoM basis, the prices of the following non-food items witnessed an Increase: Gas Charges 22.91percent, newspapers 11.93percent, postal services 10.48percent, medical tests 10.45percent and education 9.12percent. While prices of the following non-food items witnessed a reduction: Text Books 10.61percent and electricity charges 3.42percent.

According to PBS on the MoM the rural consumer price Index for December 2 025 witnessed a decrease of 0.57percent over November 2025 and increased by 5.38percent over corresponding month of the last year, ie, December 2024.

During the period under review prices of following food items on account of rural price index witnessed an Increase: Fresh fruits 5.12percent, wheat 4.94percent, fish 2.71percent, eggs 2.36percent, wheat flour 1.81percent, vegetable ghee 1.19percent, sweetmeat 1.07percent, milk powder 0.94percent, beans & milk fresh 0.83percenteach and wheat products 0.69percent.

While prices of following food commodities witnessed a decline: Tomatoes 33.50percent, onions 32.62percent, fresh vegetables 19.65percent, potatoes 19.03percent, sugar 7.06percent, chicken 4.12percent, pulse gram 3.09percent, condiments and spices 2.60percent, besan 2.44percent, gram whole 2.27percent, gur 1.86percent, pulse masoor1.28percent, pulse mash 0.85percentand rice 0.65percent.

During the period under review prices of the following non-food items increased: Liquified Hydrocarbons 8.14percent, woolen readymade garments 1.83percent, doctor clinic fee 1.63percent, construction input items 1.30percent, cleaning & laundering 1.28percentand solid fuel 1.27percent). While price of motor fuels witnessed a reduction of 0.71. percent.

On Year-On-Year basis following food items increased: Sugar 29.28percent, wheat 28.67percent, wheat flour 24.82percent, fresh fruits 23.12percent, meat 11.21percent, gur 9.5percent, chicken 9.01percent) and milk powder 8.76percent.

While prices of the following items witnessed a reduction on YoY: Tomatoes 42.32percent, potatoes 42.07percent, pulse gram 28.46percent, onions 26.56percent, besan 22.35percent, fresh vegetables 21.50percent, tea 18.80percent, pulse mash 17.96percent, gram whole 16.01percent, pulse masoor4.31percent and condiments & spices 2.32percent.

On account of Rural CPI the prices of the following non-food items increased: Education 12.32percent, medical tests 12.23percent, readymade garments 11.61percent, woolen readymade garments 10.62percent, personal grooming services 10.17percent, tailoring 7.99percent and solid fuel 7.97 percent.

On YoY basis the prices of following non-food items witnessed a decrease: Text Books 15.30percent and Electricity Charges 3.42percent.

The Wholesale Price Index (WPI) for December 2025 decreased by 0.86percent over November 2025 and increased by 0.57percent over the corresponding month of the last year i.e. December, 2024.

On a MoM basis, the prices of the following items witnessed an increase: Dried fruits & nuts 8.47 percent, spices 5.12percent, fuel wood in logs 4.67percent, wheat flour 3.87percent, wheat 3.83percent, eggs 3.20percent, cement 2.82percent, fibre crops 2.32percent, oil cakes 2.19 percent, motor vehicles 1.83percent, maize 1.79percent and bricks, blocks & tiles 1.63percent.
