Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi said on Saturday that effective government measures had led to a 47 percent reduction in illegal immigration.

Naqvi held an important meeting with US Ambassador Natalie Baker today, as per the Ministry of Interior.

The two held detailed discussions on strengthening Pakistan–US relations and expanding cooperation in areas of mutual interest.

The talks also focused on curbing illegal immigration and the effectiveness of the pre-immigration clearance system.

“Both sides agreed to enhance cooperation at all levels, particularly in training for law enforcement agencies, especially the police,” the statement said.

It was also decided that joint action would be taken under comprehensive standard operating procedures against fake and fraudulent visa networks.

“The government has adopted a zero-tolerance policy against the agent mafia and will welcome US cooperation in this regard,” he said, adding that he is personally overseeing operations against fake visa networks.

The interior minister said passports were made foolproof through modern technology, describing illegal immigration “as a serious issue”.

He noted that a robust crackdown was underway against those attempting to travel illegally to the US.

US Ambassador Baker said the US attaches special importance to its relationship with Pakistan, adding that shared priorities and enhanced mutual cooperation would further strengthen bilateral ties.
