LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has taken notice of safety hazards in Lahore’s electricity distribution system and has formed a steering committee to address the issue. Provincial Energy Minister Faisal Ayub Khokhar has been appointed as the convener of the committee.
The Punjab government has decided to take immediate safety measures regarding hanging power lines, overloaded conductors, and other unsafe electrical installations, particularly in congested markets, commercial areas and industrial units. The Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO), the Lahore Development Authority (LDA), district administration, and other relevant departments will carry out joint operations.
According to the Provincial Energy Minister, Faisal Ayub, a comprehensive plan will be developed to ensure a safe electricity infrastructure in Lahore. High-risk zones will be identified and mapped, followed by phased corrective measures.
The minister stated that the steering committee will present a comprehensive action plan to the chief minister on January 28. “Special focus will be given to minimize electricity-related risks during Basant and other public events.” He added that an integrated mechanism will also be developed for better management of data, TV, and internet cables.
