Karachi braces for chilly weekend as temperatures set to dip into single digits

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) on Saturday issued a forecast indicating that temperatures in Karachi could drop to single digits through Monday.

Following a second spell of winter showers on Thursday, the metropolis is expected to remain cold and dry with occasional winds till January end, said Meteorologist Anjum Nazir Zaighum.

According to the PMD, the minimum temperature on Saturday was forecast at 8.5°C, with a further dip expected on Sunday to between 7°C and 9°C. By Monday night, the mercury is forecasted to rise slightly to the 8–10°C range.

Daytime temperatures are expected to remain relatively cool, staying between 19°C and 21°C through Sunday before reaching 20°C to 22°C on Monday.

The current cold wave follows a westerly wave that brought light to moderate rainfall and strong winds to the city earlier this week, significantly dropping the wind chill.

More rain and snowfall are expected to hit the country from Sunday night to Tuesday, as a westerly wave is likely to approach country’s western parts on January 25, the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) said on Friday, adding that the new weather system is likely to grip upper parts of the country on January 26.
