ISLAMABAD: The government confirmed on Wednesday that new banknotes are being developed as part of a broader modernisation efforts aimed at improving both security and design standards. In a briefing to the federal cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, the Finance Ministry outlined plans to integrate advanced security features into the new currency.
The officials informed the cabinet that the initiative will involve international experts to tackle the rising threat of counterfeiting and modernise the country’s financial infrastructure. They also provided details of the new banknote designs, emphasising the incorporation of cutting-edge anti-counterfeit technology.
To ensure the designs meet the highest standards, the cabinet established a committee tasked with reviewing and finalizing the proposed notes before submitting them to the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) for approval and circulation. This effort is part of a broader strategy to address the persistent challenges of counterfeit currency and outdated designs in the country.
