Kazakhstan hints at importing 50,000 tonnes of potatoes

ISLAMABAD: In a significant development, Kazakhstan has signalled strong interest in importing 50,000 tonnes of high-quality potatoes from Pakistan, the ministry of Commerce said on Wednesday.

This ambitious trade move comes on the heels of high-level discussions between Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Kazakhstan’s President, further cementing bilateral ties.

A timeline has been set for the exports, slated to begin in April and continue through June 2026.

The ministry reassured that Pakistani exporters are fully committed to delivering top-tier potatoes to Kazakh buyers, with all necessary technical and trade consultations between both nations’ authorities now completed.

Pakistan’s agricultural sector is well-positioned to meet this substantial demand, with its potato production capacity set to play a pivotal role in bolstering the nation’s export profile.

The enthusiasm from Kazakhstan is seen as a promising opportunity for Pakistan’s farmers and a much-needed boost to its agricultural export sector.

As the global demand for quality produce rises, this deal could mark the beginning of a robust agricultural partnership between the two nations.
