MoC sends sugar scandal complaint to NAB chief

KARACHI: The Ministry of Commerce forwarded a complaint to Chairman NAB regarding the misappropriation of 5,356 metric tons of sugar procured by Trading Corporation of Pakistan (TCP) against the owners of local sugar mill. Further, the said matter was also taken over by the Public Accounts Committee and referred to NAB for investigation.

On the basis of complaint NAB Karachi had conducted inquiry on the allegation of misappropriation/embezz-lement of sugar in light of provision of NAO-1999. Inquiry unveiled that the accused allegedly committed the office in connivance with the officials of Trading Corporation of Pakistan (TCP).

Inquiry further revealed that the accused persons caused the loss of worth Rs.959.758 Million to national exchequer.However, later on inquiry was converted into investigation and NAB Karachi subsequently, filed Reference No. 02/2026 against the said accused in the Accountability Court, Sindh at Karachi on 04 Feb 2026.

Shakeel Ahmed Durrani (PSP), DG NAB (Karachi), lauded the performance of investigation team and he also reaffirmed the Bureau’s commitment for recovering looted money and to hold corrupt elements accountable.
