PM meets Ericsson delegation

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Tuesday emphasised Pakistan’s interest in harnessing Ericsson’s global expertise in advanced networks, including 5G, to strengthen the country’s telecommunications infrastructure.

Talking to an Ericsson delegation led by Patrick Johansson, President and Head of Market Area Europe, the Middle East, and Africa, the Prime Minister reaffirmed the government’s commitment to developing secure and sustainable IT infrastructure tailored to Pakistan’s national needs.

He acknowledged Ericsson’s longstanding presence in Pakistan, noting the company’s contributions over the past six decades to the country’s telecommunications sector.

Discussions focused on leveraging next-generation digital connectivity to drive economic growth, productivity, and enhance public service delivery.

Topics also included digital skills development, financial inclusion, expanding cashless payment systems, and using technology to improve disaster preparedness and institutional resilience.

Sharif reiterated the government’s support for foreign investors and strategic partners in the technology sector, while the Ericsson delegation commended Pakistan’s efforts to strengthen its IT infrastructure, particularly the upcoming 5G spectrum auction.

The meeting was attended by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, Minister of IT Shaza Fatima Khawaja, and senior government officials.
