PTI opposes govt’s decision

ISLAMABAD: The opposition Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) on Thursday rejected Pakistan’s decision to join the “Board of Peace” led by United States President Donald Trump, describing it as a reckless and unjustifiable move in addressing the Palestine issue.

In a statement issued after Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and other world leaders signed the charter for the Trump-led initiative, PTI emphasised that decisions of such international importance should be made with full transparency and inclusive consultation with all major political stakeholders.

The PTI also reiterated its stance that the current Parliament lacks legitimacy, asserting that the 2024 election results were manipulated to impose an illegitimate government on the people of Pakistan.

“The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), which was imposed in power, won only 17 actual seats in the general elections,” PTI stated.

“Even with this Parliament in place, such a significant decision should have been openly discussed within parliamentary structures before being implemented.”

The statement further stressed that Pakistan’s participation in any international peace initiative should support the United Nations’ multilateral framework and not create parallel structures that could undermine or complicate global governance.

PTI asserted that under the leadership of jailed former prime minister Imran Khan, the party consistently advocated for a foreign policy that prioritises national sovereignty, upholds constitutional norms, and reflects a broad national consensus.

As the largest political party in Pakistan, PTI affirmed its unwavering support for the Palestinian people, declaring that it would not accept any international plans that go against the will of the Palestinians.

“We are deeply saddened by the atrocities and oppression faced by the Palestinian people and strongly desire their freedom and the securing of their legitimate rights,” the party added.

PTI reiterated its position in favour of a just, comprehensive, and lasting solution to the Palestinian issue, including the creation of an independent Palestinian state with Al-Quds Al-Sharif as its capital. “This principled stance, consistently advocated by Imran Khan, reflects Pakistan’s enduring commitment to justice, international law, and the rights of the Palestinian people,” the statement concluded.
