At least nine people, including seven children, have died in accidents during rain and snowfall in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Aaj News reported on Saturday.
The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) KP has released a report on the loss of life and property caused by rains and snowfall since January 22. According to the report, tragic incidents have occurred in various districts as a result of the weather conditions that began on Thursday.
The initial report from the PDMA states the deceased include seven children, one man, and one woman, while another child is injured.
According to the PDMA, these accidents took place in Upper Chitral, Lower Chitral, Malakand, Shangla, and Khyber districts due to rain, snowfall, avalanches, landslides, and roof collapses. Five houses were also partially damaged by the rains and snow.
The report mentions that blocked highways in most districts have been reopened; however, roads in a few upper areas remain closed, and machinery and rescue teams are working to clear them. Relief supplies, including tents, blankets, bedding, mattresses, kitchen sets, and other essential items, have been provided to the affected districts by the PDMA.
The PDMA director general has instructed the administrations of the affected districts to immediately deliver relief goods to the victims and further accelerate relief activities.
Additionally, the administration of the affected district, Lower Chitral, has been directed to provide early financial assistance to the families of the deceased and to offer all possible facilities to the injured.
