SPI moves upward

ISLAMABAD: The Sensitive Price Index-based weekly inflation showed an upward trend as it increased by 0.25 percent for the current week ended on January 15, 2026.

According to the statistics released by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics, major increase is observed in the prices of tomatoes, 27.64percent, LPG, 7.03percent, wheat flour, 3.26percent, eggs, 2.19percent, bananas, 1.68percent, chili powder, 1.02percent, firewood, 0.80percent, pulse moong, 0.70percent, georgette, 0.69percent, mustard oil, 0.67percent, and powdered milk, 0.36percent.

On the other hand, major decrease is observed in the prices of potatoes, 6.72percent, onions, 3.82percent, chicken, 1.66percent, salt powder, 0.67percent, pulse gram, 0.58percent, rice basmati broken, 0.44percent, vegetable ghee 1kg,0.31percent and pulse Masoor, 0.29percent.

During the week, of the 51 items, prices of 13 items(25.49percent) witnessed a hike, 13 items(25.49percent) showed a decline, while the prices of 25 items (49.02percent) remained stable.

The year on year trend depicts increase of 3.87percent. Major increase is observed in the prices wheat flour, 34.90percent, gas charges for Q1, 29.85percent, eggs, 20.85percent, beef, 12.83percent, chilipowder, 12.56percent, sugar, 10.43percent, firewood, 10.35percent, gur, 9.97percent, powdered milk, 9.90percent, bananas, 8.92percent, lawn printed, 8.29percent, and shirting,7.93percent.

Whereas a decrease is observed in the prices of potatoes, 46.60percent, onions, 37.30percent, garlic, 35.91percent, tomatoes, 32.88percent, pulse gram, 31.03percent, tea Lipton, 17.79percent, pulse mash, 13.69percent, pulse masoor, 9.55percent, diesel, 1.27percent, and petrol, 0.95percent.

The SPI for consumption groups up to Rs17,732 with an increase of 0.28 percent recorded at 325.28 points compared to 324.37 points in the previous week.

The SPI for consumption group of Rs17,732 to 22,888 up by 0.27 percent was recorded at 325.84 points against previous week’s calculation of 324.96 points.

Whereas the SPI for the income group Rs22,889-29,517 with an increase of 0.25 percent was recorded at 347.73 points against previous week’s recording of 346.88 points.

The SPI for the income group Rs29,518-44,175 with an increase of 0.24 percent was recorded at 334.68 points against previous week’s reading of 333.68 points and SPI for the monthly income group above Rs44,175 upby 0.26 percent was recorded at 333.60 points against 332.74 points of the previous week calculation.

The combined increase for all expenditure groups recorded at 335.20 points compared to 334.35 points of previous week, registering an increase of 0.25 percent.
